South India (comprised of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu) really has a distinct culture that sets it apart from the rest of the country. Not only that, each state has managed to retain its own distinct identity. There are so many great destinations that it’s difficult to select only a few !

1. Hampi, Karnataka

Hampi is an ancient village in the South Indian state of Karnataka. It is dotted with several ruined temple complexes of the Vijayanagara Empire. And also the Tungabhadra River is the 7th-century Hindu Virupaksha Temple. A carved stone chariot stands in front of the huge Vitthal temple site.

2. Wayanad, Kerala

Wayanad is a rural district in Kerala state India. In the east, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush, forested region with areas of high altitude, home to animals including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards and egrets.

3. Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu

Kodaikanal is a hill town in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated in an area of granite rocks, wooded valleys, lakes, streams and grassy hills. At an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, the city is based around the man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, surrounded by mangrove forest.

4. Ooty and Coonoor, Tamil Nadu

Ooty, the Queen of Hill Stations, balances the hustle and bustle of city life with expansive tea gardens. The charming bungalows from the British-Raj era add a romantic flavor to Ooty, making it one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in South India.

5. Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

Tirupati is one of the most important religious places in South India. This temple town is visited by thousands of pilgrims every day and yet manages to maintain an air of peace and calm. The prasad served here is also special as Tirupati laddoos have been given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
